Until Veins Weave, Sustain You Within My Frame2023

This vessel opens beneath an uneven rim. Its outer surface gathers colour, roughness, and glimpses of mesh, while fine red lines spread across the pale interior like veins. From one side it appears to offer shelter; from another, it seems barely able to hold its own shape.

The title addresses an unnamed “you”, but the work does not tell us who sustains whom. A frame may hold something in place while also limiting how it can grow. The lines within the vessel suggest another kind of support: one that branches, crosses, and finds a path through what is already there.

I think of the work as an encounter between a built structure and a living impulse, each leaving marks on the other. It holds a question that continues through my practice: when something survives through such an encounter, what has been preserved, and what has had to change?
